Have you often thought you would like to keep bees or had the yearning to discover the secret life of bees? Or ever wondered what is the difference between a native bee and a honey bee?
Join us on Saturday October 30 for a relaxed and informal ‘conversations with bees’ and have all your questions (and more) answered.
Dean Haley and Local Bee legend Glenbo will be on hand to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for all things bees.
Dean helped found the Brisbane Native Beekeepers Club 5 years ago, which later grew to become a national native bee association (the ANBA). Dean has helped to organise two Australian native bee conferences, is the current Chair of the Brisbane branch of the ANBA, and the Chair of the ANBA honey committee. He loves to be involved with community, and to help people discover the joy of bees.
Dean is in the region to launch his new work, The Honey of Australian Native Stingless Bees, a book about native stingless bees with an emphasis on honey. It is beautifully illustrated and visually pleasing. While once little known and shrouded in mystery, our native ‘sugarbag’ bees have now become very popular.
This book is not just about the bees, it’s also a celebration of the people who love them. It offers a glimpse of Aboriginal connectedness, and early Australian colonist history. It cover’s food safety laws in Australia, and stingless bee innovations in other countries.
A feature of the work is its rich illustrations and stunning photographs, with Glenbo taking credit for the amazing layout and many of the photographs.
There will be tastings of the unique native bee honey on the day, along with stingless bee observation hives, and the book will be available to purchase from the Farm Shop.
Dean will be joined on the morning by Glenbo, local Bee-Banterer and Book-Maker. Glenbo will be sharing info on all bees – honey, stingless and solitary – and sharing stories on 6 of the local books he has worked on and published.
This event is free! Please help us to keep bringing you events like these by purchasing from our store and cafe! We really do appreciate it.
