We are delighted to be hosting Thiago Barbosa from Syntropic Solutions on the 12th May for an informative session on Syntropic Agroforestry. Last year we worked with fellow Syntropic educator Scott Hall from Syntropia to install a food forest garden on Kandanga Farm – we have been so impressed we have started a garden at the Farm Store that will grow fresh, organic produce that we can use in cafe dishes and make available through the store. Syntropic Solutions work throughout the region installing gardens and mentoring landowners to smooth the ongoing management process. This field day is a great opportunity to get an overview of Syntropics and answer your questions about whether this type of Agroforestry will work for you plus if Syntropic Solutions can help you on your journey.
What is Syntropics?
An innovative approach to regenerative agriculture, Syntropic Agroforestry aims to produce an abundant array of horticultural, timber and other crops while regenerating ecosystems and creating ecological resilience, climate stability, economic prosperity and healthy communities.
The method is based on the principles of Syntropic Agroforestry, introduced by Swiss-Brazilian scientist, Ernst Gotsch, who has already spent almost 50 years researching ecosystem regeneration and sustainable food production.
The technique used can be applicable from suburban backyards to large-scale farmers and maximises the positive environmental, economic, and social impact by:
· Re-connecting humans with nature and its natural cycles
· Providing healthy, diverse, and nutrient dense foods
· Building community and enhances food security
· Improving soil health
· Producing a great amount of organic matter to feed the soil biota
· Reducing / eliminating dependency on external inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation
· Decreasing susceptibility to pests and diseases
· Increasing water retention and cycling
· Increasing biodiversity of plants, insects, and animals
· Sequestering carbon, contributing to climate stability
Whether you want to improve your veggie garden, grow your food forest, start a commercial market garden, transition from conventional farming to regenerative farming or simply learn a different technique, this is the right fit for you.
Everyone is welcome!
