Why hasn’t anyone told the bees that thistles are terrible weeds and must be gotten rid of!

Every day you have probably been seeing posts on F

Every day you have probably been seeing posts on Facebook about cattle getting out from Kenilworth to Gympie and probably beyond.

No-one wants their animals out. They are probably busting themselves to keep them in in fact. It’s dry and animals are putting pressure on fences as they hunt out green pick. A complete crash in cattle prices is adding to everyone’s stress levels too.

We are farmers too and yes, like many others in the Valley, our cattle have been out and like many others we have had neighbours cattle in our place too.

Here’s a big THANKYOU to all of you who have called to let us know whether it’s our cattle or not, who have put posts up to warn people to slow down on roads, who have stopped to help, who have acknowledged the trials & tribulations of managing animals and landscapes in dry times. Not just to us but your tolerance and kindness towards all farmers in this rural community - a community that doesn’t have quite so many farmers as it used to - at this time makes us proud to be part of the Mary Valley.

If you are a landholder you may have just got, or be about to get a Land Tax Assessment notice. It’s not a nice surprise to find in your letterbox! If you have never received one before it’s probably because you have been classed as exempt due to primary production or residential status. The Rules have just changed to require landholders to apply for exemption each year. Go to

This #thankfulthursday we say a big thanks for those who share their stories of failures and successes so that we all get to learn and collectively take a step forward. They know that when the focus is just on keeping others back to maintain a competitive advantage, things stagnate, but when the focus is continually striving to do things better, that’s when good things start to happen quickly.

Oodles of fresh certified organic and local produc

Oodles of fresh certified organic and local produce arrived this morning and we restocked the beef freezer yesterday with certified organic K2 Beef and Ecomeat. We even have keto, grain free @nograineraustralia bread, crackers and scrolls. Plus @barambahorganics milk, free range eggs and pastured pork, gelato and more!

And a fresh batch of sausage rolls just out of the oven now….

Agvention Speaker Bio: Fergus Kane

Fergus has been working for us in the Store and more recently on the Farm since he was 14. At 18 Fergus is an exceptional worker who we rely on heavily for a range of tasks, such as, fixing things, fencing, managing stock, etc.

For a school project Fergus has been running a trial of animal grazing on the Mary Valley Rattler railway track alongside “Ecosse” at Amamoor. It aims to explore the potential value and open the opportunity of grazing across the whole route of the Mary Valley Rattler as an economical, and more passive form of vegetation control.

Fergus’ hypothesis is that Stock grazing the railway would mostly, if not completely eliminate the need for active vegetation maintenance (currently burning and chemicals) of the train line. In turn, lowering the cost of the operation, environmentally, and economically. Furthermore, the use of cattle on the railway grants the producer larger grazing area’s which will be used to turn unwanted vegetation and grasses into nutrient dense, high-quality food which will support a healthy community.

Come and meet Virginia, an Industry Recovery and Resilience Officer with BMRG at Agvention on September 1

Under the IRR program officers assist eligible primary producers with flood management plans and specialised recovery support from the 2021 – 2022 flooding and high impact rainfall events.

Officers, including Virginia, are heading out to properties for site visits to sit down with producers and assist them in completing flood management plans and offer further information on support services associated with flooding events. These plans are designed to mitigate risk, and identify action plans, not only for future flooding events, but all seasonal challenges being faced by farmers and graziers in the agriculture industry.

IRROs can also assist with further information regarding the disaster recovery loans available to eligible primary producers to help them return to viable business operations after the flooding events.

IRROs can help producers develop a Flood Management Plan and identify strategies to mitigate farm business risk. BMRG IRROs will target graziers and broadscale cropping businesses.

For producers in industries such as horticulture, nursery and garden, turf, dairy, sugar cane, intensive livestock and cotton, assistance is available from the Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) which also has two IRROs.

The project compliments the current Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Drought Resilience Program, offering eligible primary producers the opportunity to take advantage of a complimentary service to complete a farm business resilience plan. This will help producers when planning to seek funding and assistance that may be available under industry programs as it will form part of their ongoing Farm Business Resilience Planning.

Sean was at the Farm Store today training up our newest team member Saffi on how to pour the perfect cup of Montville Coffee. This level of care and attention is just all in a day's work for Sean.

When we first started promoting #Agvention on September 1, Sean immediately volunteered to give up his whole day to come and man the coffee machine in order to free up our staff for the multitude of other jobs to be done on the day. And, if that wasn't enough Montville Coffee are also sponsoring Agvention because they, like us, believe in regenerative and organic farming systems that care for the land that sustains us, the people who work it and all the rest of us that rely on them. These guys really do walk the talk.
